Here we have compiled some information about the Friends of Royal Cornhill Hospital and what we do on this frequently asked questions page. If you would like any other information just contact us.
General:
Who are “The Friends” and what do they do?
We are a group of people from various walks of life with a good skills mix who want to help in whatever way we can, those who suffer from Mental Health illness and are patients of Royal Cornhill Hospital.
Is it only in-patients at the hospital who are helped?
No, increasingly we are providing help for patients who are being looked after in the community. Our grant criteria has over the years been altered to allow a wider selection of patients to be helped.
I want to donate money to “The Friends”. How can I do this?
We are very grateful for all donations. A cheque made payable to the “Friends of Royal Cornhill Hospital” and sent to The Chairperson, Friends of Royal Cornhill Hospital, C/O Royal Cornhill Hospital, Aberdeen, AB25 2ZH, with a Gift Aid form completed if appropriate.
Legacy – details on how this can be done are available from your solicitor.
Organisational:
What skills do I need to become a “Friend”?
No specific skills need to be offered initially but you may wish to consider what you are good at: be it helping to organise a “tea dance”, a “car boot” sale or even “walking the plank”. We are open to all suggestions and will support most things that will help raise money for the “Friends”. Of course, if you come along with experience as say a Book–keeper/Treasurer/Secretary or perhaps even an Investment Manager or Legal expert then we will put your skills to good use. Just get in touch!
I want to help by coming on the committee. Who do I approach and what can I do to help?
Initially you should contact the Voluntary Services Co-ordinator at Royal Cornhill Hospital who will be happy to discuss the volunteering possibilities. We have an Induction Pack for new committee members and this will be available to all who are interested. Visits can be arranged to various departments in the hospital if necessary. If you wish you can come along as an observer to our regular meetings before deciding if you want to help.
How often does the committee meet and where?
The committee every 6 weeks with a longer break over the summer and at Christmas. The Annual General Meeting takes place normally in August each year. We meet on a week day evening at 7.30pm and depending on the business are normally away in 2 hours. Our meeting currently take place in the Clerkseat meeting room at Royal Cornhill Hospital.
